Lower III attended their residential to Bryntysilio Outdoor Centre in Wales for five days. They experienced great weather sfor the week and so enjoyed all the activities onoffer. On Monday, the first task was to make their bed and have a tour of thegrounds. Team games in the sunshine were a good start to the adventure as was ashort walk to the local church graveyard (pupils had fun searching for the oldestgravestone) and then more team games with a blindfold on the field next toHorseshoe Falls. The evening activity was a nice walk-up a nearby hill and a look outover the valley with the sunsetting!
On Tuesday, after a hearty breakfast, Lower III split into their activity groups of Oakand Ash. Oak enjoyed a paddle in a team canoe along the canal whilst Ashscrambled up a nearby hill. In the afternoon, the groups swapped over and werevery much in need of their dinner of pasta! During the evening, pupils teamed up inpairs to complete the rope course, finishing with a timed crawl through the tunnel.Well done to Jude for completing it the fastest in 11 seconds!.
Wednesday was a day of river gorging (Lower III's favourite activity of the week) andarchery with a bit of pond dipping in between. Both groups came back soaking fromthe river and enjoyed a warm shower before lunch or dinner. During the archery, pupils learnt how to hold the bow and aim at the target with some managing to hitthe yellow centre!
On Thursday, Lower III spilt into an all-day canoe group or an all-day mountain hikegroup. Well done to the hikers who scrambled for over an hour to get to the summit!Magnificent views and an achievement to remember! The canoe group were able topaddle a single canoe in pairs or threes along 7km of the canal, including thePontcysyllte aqauduct. Again, splendid views and not something Lower IIIexperiences everyday! WE ended the day with a camp fire with marshmallows andgames.
Friday was our last day and after all the paddling and walking the day before wechose to take a leisurely stroll along the canal to the ice cream shop. We finished theresidential with a souvenir shop and lunch in the sunshine, enjoying the views one lasttime.
Lower III were exemplary in their behaviour all week and the centre staff wereimpressed with their resilience and teamwork. See the next page for some photos ofour time.
