FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
On Wednesday morning Upper II and Lower III took part in a football tournament
The Mayfield team was Ekam Shahil Dhiyaan Xander Jai Jude Samay Nikhil Rohan T and Harmilan.
Match 1
The first match began brilliantly with Ekam passing the ball in front of Shahil at kick off creating a good opportunity for Ekam when Shahil returned the ball to Ekam where the defender fouled him awarding him a penalty. Ekam then fired the ball into the top left corner giving the keeper no chance. Dhiyaan smashed the ball up the pitch where Shahil went on a good run and rolled the ball to Ekam where he sent the defender on the floor and scored in the bottom corner. Ekam Rohan T and Harmilan then came off for substitutes Jude Xander and Harmilan. With good defending and good attacking Mayfield beat Walsall Wood 2 with the score ending as 2-0 win for Mayfield.
Match 2
This game started not in our favour however we had to work with it. They then scored an amazing goal into the roof of the net making the score 1-0 to St Thomas. Rohan and Harmilan came off the pitch for substitutes Jude and Jai who did great putting a few balls into the box. Thanks to Dhiyaan, who did a long kick into the box where defender Samay had a shot, and it was saved. Then Xander passed the ball to Ekam, and he shot and the keeper saved it until, Shahil smashed it into the back of the net scoring a last-minute equalizer. Where the Mayfield boys were going wild.
Match 3
This was our final match, and this was a must win match for Mayfield to qualify for the Walsall finals. In this match Shahil Ekam and Samay were on the bench. The match started horridly as only the opponents had the ball, but Dhiyaan and Nikhil were holding the defence brilliantly. Jude and Jai worked well together creating a great opportunity where Jai had a great shot above the crossbar. After this Samay Ekam and Shahil came on for Jude Jai and birthday boy Nikhil. Shortly after they had a good shot which went through Rohan's legs making it 1-0 to Pelsall Village. Then we had a few great attacks however they were denied by their goalkeeper. The match ended as 1-0 to Pelsall. Resulting as win draw loss to Mayfield.

We lost against St Thomas of Canterbury; we drew against Walsall Wood A and Pelsall and we won against Walsall Wood B. We played at the Walsall University campus.
Jiya, Aarohi, Simaaya
Our first match was against Walsall Wood B. We won 1-0 our goal being scored by Kyra. We had a great defence by Dhiyaan, Neece and Ilah was a really good goalie and made some fantastic saves.
Our next 2 matches we drew 0-0 against Walsall wood A and Pelsall we had a great Midfield, Pearl and Dahlia.
The last match against St. Thomas of Canterbury, we lost 2-0 as they were a very good team and had good attacking strategy.
Overall, we had a good series of matches and hopefully we qualify to the next round.
Science Week
Pre-Nursery
Pre-Nursery looked at objects that floated and sank and also created fish using chromoatology..
Nursery
Nursery had an amazing afternoon exploring all things 'colour' for science day this year. The children heard The Rainbow Fish story and then we created our own rainbow fish using chromatology. We added drops of water to felt tip pen on kitchen roll and watched as the ink spread and the colours mixed. You can see our fishes on the display board in the Nursery cloakroom.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and explored beans. They also explored all things 'colour' for science day this year. The children heard The Rainbow Fish story and then created their own rainbow fish using chromatology.
Transition
Transition put on their 'Science hats' and worked in pairs to use different materials to discover how they could make a carrot float. We observed, predicted and used super scientific language.
Form I
Form I investigated floating and sinking. We observed an orange, lemon and lime floating. Once they were peeled, they sank but the pieces of peel floated. We then investigated how to make a carrot float. Normally it would sink. We wrapped it up in lots of different materials, towel, foil, bubble wrap, lolly pop sticks, polystyrene and cling film. We predicted if the carrot would float or sink. Whatever we wrapped the carrot in it floated! We were quite surprised. We reflected on why this happened and noticed that although sometimes the carrot initially floated if we waited it then sank. We discussed waterproof and non-waterproof materials and realised that the absorbent materials used to wrap the carrot up were the materials that absorbed water and resulted in the carrot eventually sinking. We all thoroughly enjoyed this scientific enquiry.
Lower II
Lower II thoroughly enjoyed their online lesson about vertebrates and investigated backbone strength. To do this, we used rolled up strips of paper to see how many books the 'spine' could support. We wrapped the paper around various objects such as pencils, board pens and paint pots to make a range of spines with different diameters. We also used the ipads to research lots of different questions that we were curious about, such as 'Why is fire hot? And 'Why do some bees die when they sting? 'and Which is the most venemous creature in the world?' The children came up with their own questions and shared their answers with the whole class!
Form II
Form II built paper tubes to replicate vertebrae. They were building and testing the diameter of paper tubes. How does the diameter of the tube affect its strength?
Upper II
We used chromatography to determine which member of SLT had written a ransom note. We asked each of the staff for a pen, then compared their patterns to the ransom note. We were able to work out who it was, and managed to get the Worry Monster back.
Upper II also took part in the online Science investigation into making paper 'fly' using a bottle to create air to push the paper higher. They looked into forces and aerodynamics.
Lower III
Lower III
Lower III worked in groups to create a device to make paper 'fly'. They had to measure out strips of paper to create a metre ruler which would measure how high their paper 'flew'. Forces and aerodynamics were taken into account in order to decide how hard to press the bottle to make the air expel and push the paper up. Different types of bottles were used and pupils decided on the best outcome.
World Book Day Dress up
On Friday 6th March pupils across Mayfield dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day. There were traditional tales such as Belle from Beauty and the Beast; Roald Dahl characters such as Sophie from the BFG; much beloved characters such as Paddington Bear, Little Miss Sunshine and nearly the whole book of characters from Alice in Wonderland. There were modern book favourites such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dogman and Billionnaire Boy and, as always, lots of Harry Potters! Teachers joined in too with characters from Wicked, a pirate, Guinevere from Camelot, Cruella De Vil, Doctor Who, Mr Men, Where's Wally, Winnie the Pooh characters, a butterfly and Harry Potter. Pupils enjoyed a range of activities from visiting the library to crafts and reading books (of course!)
